Many a times it is an ode to someone or something great which came before(Tarantino does it all the time) but on the other hand in Bollywood the intent is to steal an idea and then pass it off as your own ingenuity(as outside the metros the audience has negligible exposure to World Cinema) and then be considered greats or legends(only in India) on the very basis of that loot and thus also creating barriers for genuine people. In Hollywood when there is a scene or script that has similarities to an earlier movie, the audience knows it most or maybe all the times. And why is it a problem when scenes or complete stories are copied in Bollywood while as you might argue that it happens in Hollywood and elsewhere as well. So be a bit partial with the movies in this list otherwise a movie like Pakeezah might appear to you a bland and inferior movie, which to a good extent it is but a milestone for Indian Cinema notwithstanding. Think about the kind of passion for cinema some directors and producers must have had when they made movies which had negligible odds of even breaking even at the box office, a good example would be Kaagaz Ke Phool. While watching an Indian movie keep in mind that the Indian audience is not as evolved as the audience in US or some other first world country.
Many so called critically acclaimed 'Art' movies have been excluded as well. If you find any other movie in the list which is Mahesh Bhattized then kindly bring it to notice as every Bollywood movie can very well be a copy of some movie which came out in Hong Kong in the 40s.
Highly plagiarized movies like Sholay which are otherwise considered great have been omitted.
